Phillies Preview – April 18th 2011

vs.

April 18th 2011 – 7:05pm
Milwaukee Brewers (7-8) Shaun Marcum (2-1, 2.55 ERA)
vs.
Philadelphia Phillies (10-4) Joe Blanton (I refuse to write his stats because they are so bad)

Going to the game so just some quick things.

Keys To The Game

  • JOE BLANTON.  If he does anything bad tonight Citizens Bank Park will explode with boos.  He’s been down right terrible so far this season while the other 4 starters have been tremendous sans a couple starts.  He has had decent innings this year, but then a blow-up happens.  Joe needs to more consistent in his starts especially against a strong Brewers lineup.  Shoot for 6 innings 4 runs today Joe.  Baby steps, baby steps.
  • Offense.  Yikes Another game with less then 4 runs.  It won’t get any easier as they take on Shaun Marcum.  Marcum has been strong this year and is a young pitcher who has a lot of talent.  The Phillies faced him last year in that funky mid-June series where the Blue Jays played as the home team in the bank.  He was strong allowing just one run in six innings.  The Phillies offense showed signs of life, but couldn’t break out.  They did come through in the clutch in the bottom of the 8th as Chooch hit the game winning sac-fly, but again 3 runs is not good.
  • Bullpen.  Contreras did his best Brad Lidge circa 2009 imitation, however improved to 3-3 in save opportunities.  Remember 2008 when Brad Lidge was perfect in save opps?  Yep, those days were nice, no heart attack games just chill back once the 9th came.  Well times have changed, but give the big truck credit as he buckled down and got save yesterday.  The bullpen could again be a key with big Joe on the hill, so hopefully they’ll be able to continue their success.
