New York Mets (11-15) Jonathon Niese (1-3, 5.10 ERA)
Philadelphia Phillies (17-8) Roy Halladay (3-1, 2.41 ERA)
Great win last night for the Phillies. Sure it was against the Mutts, but a win by your 6th (Sorry KK you’re clearly not starting a game this year) starter in his first start of the year is impressive. Worley, Stutes, and Baez combined for eight shutout innings before the disaster that is David Herndon took the hill for the 9th and promptly gave up three runs. Didn’t matter though because the Big Piece went off bombing a 2 run homer in the 4th and then a grand salami in the 6th. Throw in another impressive day from J-Roll (who I attribute to the cause of Howard’s first homer since Pelfrey was so concerned with holding him on first after he stole 2nd in the first inning, something J-Roll hasn’t been doing for a longggg time) and Polly (who is now hitting an absurd .390) and all the critics of the offense that were here a week ago have suddenly disappeared. Sure it’s only been two games, but it’s been impressive and what you expect out of this offense.
Today’s game will be fun. Why? Because Roy Halladay is pitching and he’s really, really good. That’s all you need to know.
Keys To The Game
- Keep the offense going. Niese has been decent his last two starts, however the Phillies shredded him in his only start in Philadelphia this season. Expect Polanco and Victorino to continue their hot hitting as they have had solid success against Niese.
- Roy Halladay. The Mets actually have good numbers versus Halladay. Reyes (10-22 .455 BA) Beltran (12-38 .316BA) and Thole (7-12 .583BA) all have given Halladay trouble. However he’s 7-2 against the Mets in his nine career starts so I guess Doc isn’t concerned.
- Win today (Yes that is always a key to any game). I’m going to the game tomorrow and want to see Clifford sweep the Mets, there’s no better feeling then hearing Mets fans cry. Lets break out a terrific clip from 2007.
