Phillies Phillies – May 9th 2011
May 9th 2011 – 7:10 pm
Philadelphia Phillies (22-11) Joe Blanton (0-1, 5.92 ERA)
Florida Marlins (20-13) Javier Vazquez (2-2, 6.39 ERA)
Frustrating series for the Phillies against Hotlanta. Besides beating up on a guy making his Major League debut the Phillies were absolutely dominated. Last night was especially frustrating as they hit a bunch of balls hard, but right at the Braves defenders. Throw in some solid Braves defense and shaky situational hitting and the Braves had an easy 5-2 victory.
Now the Phillies travel down to the sunshine state where they have been absurdly successful over the past few years. They’ve won 17 of their last 20 games against the Marlins and tonight’s starter Joe Blanton is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three career starts against the Marlins. Javier Vazquez on the other hand completely sucks. The Phillies as a team are hitting .309 against him including Ross Gload who is starting tonight and is hitting .421 (16-38) in his career against Vazquez. So pretty much the Phillies have like a 99.99999432% chance of winning tonight. Right?
Keys To The Game
- Maybe not 99.99999432% but I’ll say around 93%. The Phillies looked horrible in the Braves series scoring just five runs in three games, but hopefully a date with the horrific Vazquez will fix things.
- Country. I love the swiffer picture. It makes absolutely no sense to me what so ever, but it is amazing. Joe threw two straight seven inning two runs games before landing on the DL. The Marlins have some talent (Hanley, Stanton, Dobbs (Wait did I just say Dobbs was talented?)) however they are young and much like the Phillies have relied heavily on pitching. Hopefully the injury is just a minor blip and Blanton will continue his success.
- Hit the goddamn baseball. That’s all.
