Sports, rumors, and humor from the Ben Franklin to the George Washington

Henne and Tebow are Both Babies

So since the beginning of this off-season, which has only been a week, there have been many rumors involving Kyle Orton. If he’s going to be traded to the Dolphins, if he’s staying in Denver, if he’s going to start or if that scrub Tim Tebow was going to be the “Quarterback of the Future” for the Denver Broncos. There has also been a lot of rumors about Chad Henne. Miami Dolphins fans want him gone. He has not proven anything with the team so far even after they added Brandon Marshall. Last year at this time I was scared because I figured adding Brandon Marshall would help out the Dolphins tremendously in their passing game because he catches everything. This year I am happy that the Dolphins are keeping Henne at starting QB because it makes Brandon Marshall a non-factor in the passing game.

This also makes every Miami Dolphins fan squirm. This past Wednesday the Dolphins decided to have an open practice at Pro Player Orange Bowl Dolphin Land Shark Sun-Life Stadium (seriously how many times do you have to change the name of your stadium) as a “goodwill” gesture to the fans for the NFL Lockout. And the fans made sure that their voices were heard. After a few errant passes by Henne the Fins Faithful started booing and chanting “We want Orton.” This didn’t sit well with Henne.

“I’m human,” he told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “Deep down inside it does hurt.”

No Chad, you know what hurts, and I know this because I’ve been a Jets fan my whole life, watching the team that you support only make the playoffs once since 2001 (I’ve been lucky recently with the Jets but please do not mention the Kotite era to me or I might go postal). You’ve been with the team for three years already and have a career 27 TD’s and 33 INT’s, I think the Dolphins Fans should be a little mad since they have not had a solid QB since Dan Marino (I still see that fake spike in my nightmares every night).

On the other side of the spectrum you have the Denver Broncos who have Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, and Brady Quinn. Their team last year was 4-12, but got pretty solid play out of Kyle Orton before he got hurt. He had 20TD’s and 9 INT’s even though he only had about a 59% completion rate. He also had some nice chemistry with Brandon Lloyd throughout the year. But it seems like Broncos fans want Tebow to be the starting QB even though he hasn’t proved that much yet, while the Broncos organization want Kyle Orton to start. This has turned into something called the “Tim Tebow thing” according to Brandon Lloyd.

“It’s the Tebow Thing,” receiver Brandon Lloydtold Trotter. “They’ll put Kyle on the trading block because they don’t want to deal with the Tebow Thing. But it’s not going to end until [Tebow] plays. The faster they get this Tebow Thing over with, one way or the other …

This all goes back to Josh McDaniels and the genius that he is. You know getting rid of Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall, Peyton Hillis, and Alphonso Smith and then drafting Tim Tebow in the first round, THE FIRST ROUND! Don’t get me wrong Tebow was a beast at Florida (he beat my Seminoles all 4 years he was there) but that does not transpire into a great QB in the NFL. Look at Brad Smith, he was amazing at Mizzou and was basically the same type of QB as Tim Tebow. He knew he was not going to make it as a QB in the NFL and turned himself into Mr. Everything for the Jets (miss you already <3). Just look at Tebow’s mechanics, he can’t even take a snap correctly under center and can’t even throw while he’s in the pocket (or on the run for that matter). If you don’t believe me, ask Merril Hoge who watches more game tape then anyone in the league for his show NFL Matchup. He wrote this on his twitter Wednesday morning:

Sitting watching tape of Bronco offense from last year! Orton or Tebow? It’s embarrassing to think the broncos could win with tebow!!

Orton or tebow? QB play is not just about who works hard gives rare rare college speeches or who is a good guy!! Because orton works hard and is a good guy as well.

It’s about who can play!! I just watched Tebow throw 5 out routes to a wide open WR! He was 1 for 5! 2 went in Dirt 2 in the stands!

That throwing motion he changed? U can’t change who u r! Just watched 2 throws and he throws like he did in college!!

You must possess a skill set to play! Tebow struggles with accuracy!

That might be a little harsh but it’s probably the truth. Tebow isn’t liking the criticism either since he got used to being a God at the University of Florida.

“I’m trying to insulate myself from what people in the media are saying, but I’ve seen some of it, and it hurts because it’s coming from people who haven’t seen me practice, haven’t seen me play, haven’t seen what I can do.  I did an interview the other day with someone on the NFL Network who said last year I’d never play a down in the NFL. He was wrong,” Tebow said.

Sorry Tim, we have seen you play, your NFL coaches have seen you play, scouts have seen you play, your organization has seen you play, and they still don’t want you starting. Just go back to the sidelines, put on your headset, and help out calling plays because Brady Quinn should be the back-up to Orton, while you should just be a cheerleader (Yes I might still be a little bitter about all the times he beat Florida St.).
