Shit...Got...Weird

Shit…Got…Weird

Well well well…..it has been quite a while since I have had the motivation to write anything in this space and I really don’t have any excuses except that I am lazy as a sloth.  Just to bring you up to speed here are a few of the highlights/lowlights in my life since my last post on March 13th 2012.

Chase Utley and Ryan Howard missed half a season

Cole Hamels Made a lot of money

The Daily Drive – 7/25/2011

The Daily Drive is a daily (duh) post of all the prominent things going on in the sports world we didn’t cover, and anything else we might want to share with you.The Drive is starting to run on a tight, meticulous schedule, and your fearless leader snagged the coveted Monday spot. Hungover at work traffic! Like your Mom’s period, expect my post to be fashionably late.

-The NFL is back. I’m sure this is the first any of you have heard of this.

-Carlos Beltran is expected to be traded sometime this week, and he say’s he’d much prefer an NL team over an AL team. The kicker? He doesn’t want to DH. I know, I thought he was from Puerto Rico too.

-Great piece by WithLeather on dick heads who steal foul balls from kids. In my opinion we should persecute them the same way they did treason in the old days: Hang ’em.

Like Bandits in the Night

Yesterday was the biggest day in Philadelphia Flyers recent history. They traded away two superstars, and signed the goalie that the fans have been asking for for years. While most Flyers fans, like CaptainDan, are in a state of shock, there is plenty of reason for Flyers fans to be excited for the upcoming season(s). Hold my hand baby, let daddy walk you through.

Carter and Richards depart

This is the first thing you hear from all the Flyers fans. Not about the very generous return they received. Or that they won’t have to worry about a top line for 10 years (we’ll get to that.) No, right now twitter and the like are exploding with fans remembering their fallen brothers. But it’s the old adage that you have to spend money to make money. Also, theses guys may have been fan favorites, but the Flyers brass wasn’t exactly pleased with their behavior. I don’t mind my players partying and enjoying themselves, but do me a favor and do it in the offseason, and only if you’ve won a trophy. If you aren’t getting better you’re getting worse.

Pictured: Leadership

So now you’ve got two guys, both 26, who clearly care a little bit more about romancing the coeds than improving upon their near championship season. Plus, at this age, this is who you are getting. Carter and Richards are developed, they will not be getting any better at hockey. Mark. My. Words. Their point totals will not rise more than 10 the next few seasons. Just won’t happen. These guys are developed and know what they are capable of.

HOLY FUCK

Its always tough to say goodbye

Well Ilya Bryzgalov might be remembered for the guy that finally brought the cup back to Philly, or the guy that got our leading scorer (Jeff Carter) and our Captain (Mike Richards) traded away.  It is clear that Paul Holmgren felt he needed to do something drastic to make this team a contender.  Here’s the thing: I’m calling bullshit.  I can understand why you would trade carter (I guess) but WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU TRADE THE HEART AND SOUL OF THE WHOLE FUCKING TEAM!?!?!?!  Yeah maybe Richards had a salty attitude towards the media and Coach Peter Laviolette (allegedly) but it still doesn’t make any sense.  Maybe Homer thought since the two were such good friends if he traded one of them, he would have lost the other completely.  I’m gonna call double bullshit on that one.  These guys are Professionals.  Trades happen, friends leave teams, people and franchises move on.  I just don’t see a reason why he had to go.

The only thing that I can take away from this is that the 2011-2012 flyers are going to be missing a lot of what made me love the team.  I assume this means Pronger gets the C, and I cant believe im typing this, but Scott Hartnell becomes a veteran leader.  Shocking day for the Orange and Black.  Carts and Richie will be missed.

You better be the second coming of Bernie

The Daily Drive – 6/23/2011

The Daily Drive is a daily ( for the most part) post of all the prominent things going on in the sports world we didn’t cover, and anything else we might want to share with you. Like that writing jokes can get hard. See?

-Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel wants more offense, and he wants it now. Meanwhile Jose Contreras has been placed on the DL and the Phillies take on the St Louis Cardinals tonight.

-The Philadelphia Flyers have traded Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets, clearing up salary cap room so the team can overpay for a mediocre goaltender. Hey Flyers fans, remember when I said you’d be mortgaging the future? The Flyers did get the number 8 pick in the draft that’s being held on Friday. More of that in my Draft Preview tomorrow.

-Despite what you may have heard, Jose Reyes will not be a New York Yankee this season. Yankee fans breathe a sigh of relief. Derek Jeter blows his nose in Minka Kelly’s chest.

-NEWS FLASH! Derek Jeters impending 3,000th hit (one hit closer to retirement, and hopefully, obscurity folks) will be kind of a big deal.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers made a move that shocked quite a few people, including myself, in acquiring free agent to be Ilya Bryzgalov. Anyone close to the Flyers knows what the team has been lacking the past few years has been elite goaltending and Philadelphia hopes to have solved their problem. The question is, at what cost?

The Daily Drive – 5/4/2011

The Daily Drive is a daily (duh) post of all the prominent things going on in the sports world we didn’t cover, and anything else we might want to share with you. You want to know why Obama won’t release those Osama bin Laden death photos? Because we haven’t given em to him yet.

It’s Star Wars Day (may 4th, may the force, ahh you get it) so there’s going to be Star Wars related content sprinkled throughout.

-The Flyers travel to Boston tonight for Game 3 of their series which sees the Bruins up 2-0. While Jeff Carter’s involvement in tonight’s game is still being kept a secret, Chris Pronger is out. While I don’t see the Flyers winning the series, I think they light Tim Thomas up tonight. (PHI 5, BOS 1)

– The Yankees take on the Tigers tonight, and it’s only the first week of May and there are already a slew of articles pointing out Jeter’s demise.

-Only 4 teams in the NHL NL have a winning record. One of those teams? Just my wild card pick and hometown heroes, the Florida Marlins.
